In 2018 I began creating wigs on my sewing machine simply by getting on you tube and teaching myself. I'd never touched a sewing machine before then, other than in the 6th Grade.
I started doing wigs for a number of reasons. One being, I have two immediate family members that suffered hair loss due to medical conditions. One breast cancer survivor and one who suffered from Alopecia.
These two were my motivation secretly, because it was something that they didn't care to discuss out loud. My wigs allow damaged hair to grow healthy without adding more damage to it.
My second reason was prices increasing rapidly for wig installs while all along it's not a protective hairstyle for client's scalps and edges. Clients will eventually begin to lose their edges, skin becomes irritated at the hairline/scalp, redness, flakiness or even a rash.
I didn't want to continue seeing client's hair or skin and assumed it to be healthy underneath installed wigs until the wig is removed to see it's not. Prices for installs were $75-$95 only now to be around $400.
Lastly, I created what I do because standard (non-customized/ factory) wigs come one size fit all or small, medium, large. Some clients are in between those sizes, or even smaller than a small or much larger than a large.
I wanted to be able to provide a fit my Queen clients feel not only beautiful but comfortable. Something made "Just for YOU." The caps I use are either Mesh Dome OR Ventilated Caps. I will consult with my Queen clients on what they want verses what I recommend.
