My journey as a hairstylist started in North Carolina, where I received my cosmetology license in 2001. I discovered I was passionate about educating my clients on hair, products, and color.
So, I returned to school to obtain my instructor’s license and applied for a full-time position at Coastal Carolina Community College as a Cosmetology Instructor. In 2004, I began teaching at the college.
Again, I discovered how much I enjoyed teaching students about chemistry and the molecular structure of the hair, understanding what “actually” makes hair grow, and the diseases and disorders that prevent it from growing.
After teaching, life took me to the Northern Virginia area, where I managed multiple Salons with the JC Penney Corporation. Earning numerous awards several years in a row for growth and leadership gave me the business insight required to take the next step in my hair journey. So I decided to launch my own business and opened Lori Younger Salon, where we specialized in hair care, full body waxing, and skin care.
Over the years, I researched, read books, took various hair-related classes, and attended seminars and workshops on the various forms of Alopecia and other causes of hair loss.
My main goal is to look for solutions for clients with hair problems. In 2016, I attended a class with the Toni Love Training Center and obtained a certification in Non-Surgical Hair Replacement. And more recently, I received my Medical Wig Certification.
The NSH Replacement Certification led me to join the American Cancer Society’s “Look Good Feel Better” program. I volunteered as a class facilitator, wig stylist, and makeup artist at several hospitals in Northern Virginia. Many women were in the middle of cancer treatment, so they either lost all of their hair or part of it.
These classes taught them how to cover or camouflage skin challenges due to treatments and fit various styles of wigs as well as other head coverings. This gave them a small amount of normalcy and made them feel good when they looked at themselves. I have also made several appearances on OurTv Network, discussing hair loss and stress during Covid.
Over the years, the salon evolved. Today, Younger Hair Solutions is partnered with several international Cranial Prothesis companies, Dermatologists, Oncologists, and Pharmacists to provide solutions to client hair challenges.
This enables us to assess the best hair replacement and hair restoration treatment for each person and refer them for additional evaluation if necessary. The goal is to find the “root cause” of hair loss. At Younger Hair Solutions, we realize that one size does not fit all, so we ensure we have a solution for each individual.
We accept insurance for those that qualify, as well as other types of financing. Please contact us if you or someone you know suffers from hair loss and would like an in-depth consultation.
How do you plan to impact the medical hair loss community?
I not only want to offer solutions, but I want to be able to help clients get to the “root cause” of their hair loss by utilizing the partnerships that I have. It’s usually more than meets the eye.
