Tyra Burnett-Turner: Cranial Prosthesis Specialist Miami, Florida

Tyra Burnett-Turner: Cranial Prosthesis Specialist Miami, Florida

I began my journey in the wig industry in 2018, driven by my own experience with thinning hair. At the time, I was dealing with hair loss due to stress, which led me to seek answers from multiple dermatologists and medical professionals.

Despite undergoing numerous tests, including hormone evaluations, I still found myself struggling with hair thinning. As I researched and experimented with different solutions, I started making custom wigs for myself.

Over time, other people—especially friends and fellow church members who were also experiencing hair loss—began asking me to create wigs for them. Some of these individuals have seen their hair grow back, while others continue to experience complete hair loss.

As I continued making wigs and learning more about the different types of hair loss, I realized that educating myself about the terminology and science behind the industry was crucial. This not only helped me improve the quality of my work but also allowed me to communicate more effectively with my customers.

The more I understood the various causes of hair loss and the best approaches for different conditions, the better I was able to meet the unique needs of each person I serve.

What do you enjoy as a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist?

As a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist, I enjoy the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Hair loss can be a deeply personal and emotional experience, and it is incredibly rewarding to provide a solution that not only restores appearance but also boosts confidence.

I love customizing each unit to fit the individual's needs, whether that’s addressing medical hair loss, creating a natural look, or helping someone regain a sense of normalcy. I also truly value the connection I build with my clients. Many people come to me after struggling with hair loss for a long time, and it is a privilege to help them feel more comfortable in their own skin.

I also enjoy continuously learning about new techniques, materials, and advancements in the industry to better serve my clients and ensure I offer the best possible solutions. Ultimately, the impact I have on their emotional and mental well-being is what keeps me passionate about this work. It’s not just about wigs—it’s about helping people feel whole again.

How do you want to help your clients?

I want to help my clients by offering personalized, compassionate solutions to their hair loss challenges. I aim to provide not only high-quality cranial prosthetics but also emotional support throughout the process.

I understand that their loss can affect a person’s sense of self and confidence, so I strive to create units that not only look natural but also help restore that sense of identity and comfort. By taking time to really listen to each client’s story and understanding their unique needs, I aim to craft a solution that feels tailored to them - whether that’s through a custom wig, a prosthetic designed to match their natural hair or a style that complements their lifestyle.

I also want to empower my clients with knowledge about their hair loss and the options available to them. Educating them about how to care for their units and providing ongoing support ensures that they feel confident and comfortable throughout their journey. Ultimately, I want my clients to feel like they’re not just getting a product but a true partner in their journey to reclaim their confidence and comfort.

What do you love about the community you work and live in?

What I love most about the community where I work and live is the strong sense of support and connection. This community truly understands the value of empathy and care, and I see that every day in my interactions with clients, friends, and fellow professionals.

Many people in my community - whether they’re dealing with hair loss, illness, or other personal struggles are incredibly open and supportive of one another, and that makes it a great place to build relationships. For me, the trust my clients place in me goes beyond just a business transaction; it feels like a partnership. Being able to serve the same people with whom I share personal ties, such as my friends and church members, creates a sense of shared purpose.

The more I engage with people in my community, the more inspired I am to learn and grow in my craft. There’s also a sense of resilience here. Many of my clients are dealing with serious health challenges, but they face them with courage, and that spirit inspires me. Helping them regain confidence through cranial prosthetics feels like a small but significant way I can contribute to that strength.

In short, I love the way my community supports one another, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of that fabric, helping people restore their sense of self and connect with others in meaningful ways.

What sets me apart in this field is my personal connection to the work I do. My own experience with hair loss allows me to approach clients' needs with empathy and understanding, not just as a specialist but as someone who has walked that journey.

This personal touch helps build trust and makes the process of creating custom wigs or cranial prosthetics less clinical and more collaborative and compassionate. I also take pride in continually educating myself about the latest techniques, trends, and advancements in the hair loss industry.

This ensures that my clients receive not only a natural-looking product but also one made with the best materials and techniques available. My commitment to ongoing learning, combined with my personal touch, allows me to offer high-quality, individualized solutions that truly make a difference in my clients' lives.

Ultimately, my passion for helping people feel confident and comfortable in their own skin drives everything I do. I don’t just create wigs- I create a pathway for my clients to rediscover their self-esteem and regain control over how they look and feel. It’s not just about the hair; it’s about restoring their sense of identity and helping them shine inside and out.
